Villarreal - FC Bayern: Let us have some fun

After writing a preview for the game and reading one from VillarrealUSA,  another from a Bayern fan and reading a whole lot in the press. I have realised this.

1. Nobody gives us a chance. 
2. We are either supposed to fight for the 3rd place or most likely finish 4th

It may be true. We do not have the star players like Bayern or Napoli. We certainly don't have the combination of the squad depth and star power that Manchester City has. This is a very tough group even for those teams. There will be no easy games, except those people are expecting to play against us, apparently.

In a situation like this, being an underdog has its positives. You are not expected to do good. That should take a lot of pressure off of the team. Unlike the favorites who are expected to win and advance. We have to use this to our advantage.


Keys to the game - I hope Garrido will read this before the game:

1. Forget about points, qualification to the next round etc., because at the bottom of it all it is just one game. You may win, draw or lose, simple as that.
2. Play our game
3. Concentrate and cut down on errors
4. Let us have fun play football against one of the historic teams in Europe. We don't get this opportunities every year.

As for the fans, enjoy the occasion. As you know me, I so wish I could be there at El Madrigal today. Support our team, be LOUD.

Sometimes, reminding ourselves of what we are capable of before embarking on a difficult mission is not a bad idea.

Villarreal - Sevilla : Tres puntos de oro

Hoy el Villarreal juega su primer partido de la liga en casa. El rival es el Sevilla. El conjunto amarillo viene de una derrota muy dura en el Camp Nou. El equipo no ha dado la talla. Ante la avalancha blaugrana el equipo no quiso plantar cara, o así parecío.

Pero hoy es otro día. El fútbol, como la vida te da mas que una oportunidad. Una nueva oportunidad para reivindicar el orgullo.  Una nueva oportunidad para ganar. Una nueva oportunidad para dar alegrias a la afición. Una nueva oportunidad para disfrutar.

Despúes de una semana larga de los partidos FIFA/UEFA y muchos temas de los despachos, la cancha y los futbolistas vuelven a ser protagonistas. Y eso, nos gusta más que nada. No estoy menospreciando los temas de los despachos, pero al final los miles de aficionados en los estadios y los millones enganchados a sus televisiones y radios quieren ver a su equipo jugando fútbol.

El Villarreal se enfrenta a Sevilla, un equipo de 'su liga'. Los dos estarán luchando para los puestos Europeos hasta el fin de la temporada. Una victoría tranquilizará mucho al Villarreal y les da un importante dosis de confianza de cara al partido de la Champions. Por otra parte una victoría de los Andaluces les dará una ventaja muy importante de 6 puntos contra el Villarreal. Aunque es muy temprano en la liga, este partido es muy importante y el Villarreal tiene que ganar sí o sí.

El Sevilla viene de una buena victoría en casa ante el Málaga de nuestro viejo amigo, Don Manuel Pellegrini. Al ariete nervionense Alvaro Negredo está en plena forma de anotar goles. Junto con Navas y Perotti en las bandas Negredo formará un tridente muy peligroso para la zaga amarilla. Además hay el Kanoute de siempre, un jugador de mucha clase. En el mediocampo Sevilla saldrá con Medel, Rakitic/Troche. Un equipo bien compensado.

Zapata no llegará a tiempo para jugar el partido por los problemas de su visado en Estados Unidos. Un tema raro. Los Americanos le dejaron entrar con el mismo visado pero 3 dias despúes no le dejaron a salír.

Con la ausencia de Zapata, El equipo de Garrido alineará así (mas o menos)

Garrido guardará a Senna para el partido de la Champions con el Bayern el proximo miercoles
La única duda es: si De Guzmán jugará desde el inicio del partido. Creo que no. Borja jugará en el doble-pivote y Camuñas por la izquierda.

Jugador Clave: El jugador clave de este partido es Cani. Si Cani puede jugar su juego, funcionará muy bien el equipo y tendrá muchas oportunidades.

Punto debil: La falta de velocidad en la defensa. Los laterales Oriol y Mario tendrán muchismo tarea defensiva para controlar a Navas y a Perotti por las bandas.

El año pasado, tuve la suerte de estar en El Madrigal para ver este partido. Fue un partido de muchos nervios y ganamos por la minima. No espero algo diferente hoy. Un partido muy trabajado con ocasiones para ambos equipos.

Una historia bonita

Hace 2 años en el día del partido de Sevilla-Villarreal estaba en la Gran Muralla de China maravillándome a esa estructura historica y espectacular. De repente me encontré con un Sevillista llevando su bandera de cien años. Tenía mi camiseta amarilla (con el aeroplanito) puesta. Qué casualidad? eh? :-)

Momentazo. Para guardar los recuerdos de aquel momento muy bonito saqué esta foto. El encuentro fue muy breve y en la emoción de encontrar alguien que habla le mismo idioma que hablo yo (el del fútbol, claro) olvidé pedirle su correo electronico. Estoy seguro que él tambien recordará de este momento siempre y cuando hay un partido de Sevilla - Villarreal.

New blog - why? ¿Por qué?

Hola amigos!

I am starting a new blog..again. There is no specific reason. A new start. A new design. New momentum. Or just plain old "new year resolution" syndrome, although the new year is more than 4 months away.

What will be in this blog?

The plan is to be bilingual like I used to do in the old Spaces blog and the Round But Not Oval Blog. The topics, more or less the same. about 90% Villarreal, 10 % rest of Spanish football, Spanish national team etc..

Any other goals?

Bring together people and content from other sites. Be it either linking to their sites or articles so on and so forth.

With that introduction, I will start this off with a Spanish post. Havent written one in almost 3 years.
